On the day you burn

1 Before you light

Call Apache County Sheriff’s Office, (928) 337-4321, option 6. Ask if restrictions are in place. Give your address, a phone number, and the time you will burn.

2 When the fire is out

Call the Sheriff again at (928) 337-4321, option 6. Tell them you have stopped and the fire is extinguished.

3 Tell Concho Fire

Call (928) 337-2681. Give your address, phone, and burn time. Suggested, not required — so we know the smoke is yours.

Keep it safe
  • No burning on Red Flag days. Check restrictions that morning.
  • Burn early. Out before sunset. Wind picks up later in the day.
  • Low or no wind. Water, shovel, and rake on hand. Clear a berm around the pile.
  • Do not leave it. Not for a minute.
  • Welding: wet the grass or use a blanket. A spotter watches sparks you cannot see.
  • If you need help with the burn, dial 911.
